The 154th Open comes to Royal Birkdale in Southport — the course the players themselves call the fairest test on the rota. Fairways run through flat valleys between the dunes (no wild links bounces off the tee), but the price of that fairness is over 100 pot bunkers and firm, exposed greens. It's one of the shorter courses on tour this year. Translation: nobody wins Birkdale with driver alone — you win it with your irons.

And here's the wrinkle that changes DFS strategy this week: the forecast is calm. Highs near 80°F, single-digit rain chances, and wind around 4mph through the first two days. No brutal wave split, no weather lottery. A baked, browned-out Birkdale with no wind is a scoring festival where approach precision separates the field — think firm-links target practice, not umbrella golf.

🚀 THE GPP BLUEPRINT — how a top shark ships a massive field

We reverse-engineered actual winning portfolios from one of the field's sharpest MME players (the archetype our builder's shark profile is built on), and the PGA DNA is consistent: near-max the cap every lineup ($47,600–$50,000), anchor 1–2 studs, hammer 2–3 repeated cheap anchors across the whole portfolio, and embrace chalk value instead of fading it. Differentiation comes from the rotating mid pieces — not from getting cute with the core.

The contest shape tells you how to play it. ~4,900 entrants, 21.3% cash, and the top prize is $5K — just 10% of the pool.
