The proprietary CourtEdge model landed on the nightcap and it's a leverage goldmine: a 6.87-ERA arm (Perkins) against an MLB debut (Kohl Drake) in a dome — a shootout hiding behind a 9.5 total — yet the field is piling onto Max Kepler (58%), Drake (62%) and Perkins (53%). Meanwhile a returning Corbin Carroll sits 14% owned and Jacob Wilson 9%. My 5 captains, 5 flex, four game scripts, and three cap-verified CPT+5 builds — all $48.5K–$50K.
📊 The board the field is playing — and the hole in it
Tonight the ownership is the edge. The field has decided this is a pitcher slate and jammed the two cheap-ish arms: Kohl Drake 62% (an MLB debut!) and Jack Perkins 53%. Then it piled onto the two salary-relief bats: Max Kepler 58.5% at $4,800 and Tim Tawa 30.9% at $4,600. That's four plays north of 30% in a six-man game.
The problem: this projects as a shootout, not a pitcher's duel. Two of the worst starters on the entire MLB slate, both projected to leave by the 5th, in a neutral dome. A pitcher captain caps at ~30 DK points on five innings — a bat who homers returns 25–40+ at 1.5×. This is a bat-captain slate, and the best bats are under-owned. Corbin Carroll (back from the elbow) sits 14.2%, Nolan Arenado 14.5%, Jacob Wilson 8.9%. That gap between ceiling and ownership is the whole tournament.
🎬 Four game scripts — and the captain each one pays
1) ARI jumps Perkins early (~30%). Perkins' 9.26 ERA over his last three continues, Arizona hangs 6–9. CPT winners: Marte, Carroll, Perdomo — the ARI top of the order gets three cracks.
2) Track-meet, both pens torched (~30%). Both weak starters gone by the 5th, 11–14 combined runs. The GPP dream: a bat CPT from either side smashes. Maximum leverage for Wilson / Soderstrom on the ATH side.
3) Drake debut disaster (~20%). The rookie loses the zone, ATH puts up 5–7 and torpedoes the 62%-owned Drake. Jacob Wilson / Langeliers / Soderstrom CPT — and because ATH is only 4.0 implied, an ATH bat CPT is maximally contrarian.
4) Drake gem, low-scoring (~20%). Debut adrenaline + a Kurtz/Rooker-less ATH lineup → Drake goes 5–6, ARI wins 4–2. The only script the Drake chalk CPT pays — and the narrowest ceiling on the board.
Three of the four live scripts are bat-captain outcomes, and two of them reward the low-owned side. That's why the builds below captain bats, not arms.
👑 My 5 captains — ranked by ceiling & leverage, not average ROI
🟩 core / leverage · 🟥 fade at CPT · own% = projected FLEX ownership (CPT% runs far lower)
Corbin Carroll · LEVERAGE $13.8K CPT
Back from the elbow (confirmed in lineup) at just 14.2% owned — the field suppressed him after he sat Monday. +449 to homer with SB/triple/run upside no one else has. The premium contrarian captain.
Ketel Marte · CHALK ANCHOR $13.5K CPT
ARI's best bat, +423 HR, switch-hitter neutralizing the LHP debut. Highest floor of the elite captains — your safe-anchor CPT in a share of builds.
Jacob Wilson · DEEP LEVERAGE $12.9K CPT
8.9% owned with the highest H+R+RBI on the ATH side. If the Drake debut wobbles and ATH scores (~40% of scripts), a top-of-order Wilson CPT is almost uniquely yours. The tournament-winner.
Nolan Arenado · SALARY-SAVER $10.2K CPT
14.5% owned and the cheapest elite CPT — frees ~$2K to stack ARI mashers underneath. Lowest strikeout risk on the board, RBI spot behind Marte/Carroll.
Shea Langeliers · CHALK / FLEX INSTEAD $14.4K CPT
Slate-best +315 HR odds, but 45% owned — the anti-leverage CPT. Capture his ceiling as a FLEX; only captain him in a small % of lineups.
🎯 My 5 flex — the correlation and the value
Geraldo Perdomo · $7,800 · 33.6%Table-setter atop the ARI order vs a rookie who'll walk people — projected a walk + a run, elite OBP correlation. The stack's floor.
Ketel Marte / Corbin Carroll (whichever isn't your CPT)Pair them — the ARI 2-3-4 is the core stack vs Perkins. Carroll at 14% owned is still leverage even un-captained.
Tim Tawa · $4,600 · 30.9%Legit $4,600 salary relief in a plus lineup — enables two studs. Chalky but near-mandatory in cash; fine as a GPP stack-completer.
Tyler Soderstrom · $8,800 · 24.2%ATH's secondary power (+522 HR) and the bring-back that correlates a Wilson/Langeliers mini-stack — the piece that makes the Drake-disaster script pay.
Jeff McNeil · $4,400 · 3.2% (value)The deep punt: 3.2% owned contact bat. If he's in the ATH lineup, he's a near-zero-owned salary saver that unlocks a fully-contrarian ATH build. (Kuroda-Grauer $6,200 is the higher-floor cheap ATH option.)
🧩 The Kepler question — 58.5% owned, and here's the honest read
Max Kepler at $4,800 is the most-owned bat on the slate, and it's almost entirely price-driven. But he's a left-handed hitter facing a left-handed pitcher (Drake), his HR odds (+610) are the lowest among ARI regulars, and his projection is soft. That's negative leverage — he'll be on most winning and most losing lineups, so he barely differentiates you. The move: fade Kepler in roughly half your builds and take Tim Tawa or a cheap ATH bat (McNeil) for the salary instead. Where you must have the $4,800, use Kepler at FLEX only — never captain him.
🚫 Fades & exposure — the chalk I'm not paying full price for
🟥 Kohl Drake CPT (62%) — a debuting arm captained by nearly two-thirds of the field, capped ~30 pts, one live script out of four. Own him at FLEX in a small share if you believe the strikeout debut; never captain.
🟥 Max Kepler (58.5%) — see above; fade in ~half of builds.
🟨 Jack Perkins (53%) / Shea Langeliers (45%) — real plays, but at that ownership they're anti-leverage at captain. Langeliers is a FLEX in most builds (capture the +315 HR without the CPT tax); Perkins is a fade at CPT.
Suggested exposure (large-field GPP): Carroll 25–30% · Marte 20–25% · Wilson 12–18% · Arenado 15–20% · Langeliers-flex 30% / Langeliers-CPT ≤10% · Kepler ≤25% flex, 0% CPT.
🏆 Three cap-verified builds — CPT + 5 FLEX, $48.5K–$50K
Each checked in code: captain at the listed 1.5× CPT salary, five flex, total inside the $48,500–$50,000 window.
A · ARI leverage — CPT Carroll (fade Kepler) · $50,000
CPT Corbin Carroll · FLEX Tyler Soderstrom, Ketel Marte, Geraldo Perdomo, Nolan Arenado, Ryan Waldschmidt
B · ATH contrarian — CPT Wilson · $49,900
CPT Jacob Wilson · FLEX Tyler Soderstrom, Shea Langeliers, Geraldo Perdomo, Joshua Kuroda-Grauer, Tim Tawa
C · Salary-saver — CPT Arenado, ARI stack · $49,600
CPT Nolan Arenado · FLEX Tyler Soderstrom, Ketel Marte, Geraldo Perdomo, Corbin Carroll, Tim Tawa
🧠 Cash vs GPP
Cash / small SE: anchor Marte (CPT or FLEX) + the ARI stack + Tawa for salary — you want the higher-implied side and the safest bats. Kepler is fine here (dupes don't matter in cash).
Large-field GPP: captain the leverage — Carroll, Wilson or Arenado — fade Kepler/Drake at CPT, and build one fully-contrarian ATH-side lineup (Wilson CPT + Langeliers + Soderstrom + a cheap ATH bat) for the Drake-disaster script. In a big field, the un-owned side is how you avoid splitting first.
🔧 Methodology & honesty
Salaries, projections and projected ownership are the proprietary CourtEdge showdown model for tonight's real DK single-game slate; game total/implied from the market; HR odds from the sportsbook board. Builds cap-verified in code. The whole leverage thesis hinges on the lineup cards (~7:40 ET, PT-adjusted): confirm Carroll is IN (he's expected) and check Wilson/McNeil order. Kurtz (thumb IL) and Rooker (season-ending knee) are out. Chase Field roof = no weather. Every pick graded, win or lose.
